Care and Maintenance of Your Home’s Siding

Always wear protective eyewear, clothing, and gloves if using cleaning solutions, stains, or other chemicals. Remember to follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines so that you don’t void your warranty.

Vinyl Siding
Spray siding with a hose or pressure washer annually to get rid of dirt, mildew, mold, stains, and any insects that may have made homes in crevices. Check for damage from lawnmowers, toys, edgers, or other items. In some cases, damage can be patched. Call us for guidance.
Brick
Once a year, use a hose to wash down the brick. Monitor shaded areas for mold or mildew growth. If you do notice mold, use a solution of one gallon of water to one cup of bleach and scrub the area with a bristle brush (not wire). Rinse well. Protect any nearby landscaping from the bleach solution.
Wood
To clean wood siding annually, use a soft-bristled brush and water. You can use a one part bleach to four parts water solution to clean mold or mildew, but follow your manufacturer’s instructions for best results.
Fiber Cement Siding
Fiber cement siding should be cleaned with a power washer or hose every few years. Repainting needs to be done every five to ten years.
Steel Siding
If you feel your siding needs cleaning, simply use a hose to clean it off once a year.
